Fresh produce as a potential vehicle for transmission of Acinetobacter baumannii

Abstract Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram-negative bacterium that has gained stronghold inside healthcare settings. Due to the ability of A. acquire antibiotic resistance easily, its presence in food products could pose major threat public health. The aim this study therefore, was investigate prevalence fresh produce and their genetic diversity. A total 234 samples vegetables fruits were collected. isolates identified using CHROMagar two different PCR assays. Also, tested for resist antibiotics form biofilms. diversity determined multi-locus sequence typing (MLST). Of collected, 10 (6.5%) 7 (8.75%) recovered from fruits, respectively. Antibiotic susceptibility testing revealed 4 these extensively drug-resistant (XDR). All able biofilms MLST analysis 6 novel strains. This demonstrated constitutes reservoir , including strong biofilm formers XDR represents significant concern health because may serve as vehicle spread into community
